HEAVY PEMA ROBOT WELDING STATION IMPROVES PRODUCTIVITY OF MULTIVA TRAILER MANUFACTURING
Extension of the Finnish Dometal Oy Ltd’s shop floor facilities by an additional 1 400 m2 has been completed. The new shop was specially built for production of Multiva tractor trailers.
In conjunction with the expansion investment, the company made a far-reaching strategic decision to choose robotic welding as the production method for trailer bodies and frames. Before, these parts were welded manually. The objective is to further improve their already good productivity and quality.
Pemamek Oy Ltd designed and delivered a heavy robot welding gantry which incorporates two identical work stations. In the stations, work pieces are automatically handled with two headstock-tailstock positioner pairs which are connected with rails.
The loading capacity of the gantry is 5 000 kg, and it accommodates work pieces up to 17 metres of length. The welding robot is remotely programmed by means of 3D models from the customer’s product design department. The welding process is single MIG/MAG.
Pemamek’s turn-key delivery included complete robot welding equipment with gantry structures, positioners, rails, robot programs, installation, operator training, and commissioning.
Established 1997, Dometal Oy Ltd develops and manufactures high-quality Multiva-farming machinery: spring tine harrows, disc cultivators and large tractor trailers. New model series are constantly developed to the Multiva product family, and the existing series are expanded and developed all the time. Multiva farming machinery is used mainly in Finland, Sweden and in the Baltic countries.
